  2. Day 2

    Lyon

Welcome to Lyon, the first stop of your river cruise on the Rhône! Lyon, otherwise known as Collonges, is the third largest city in France and is located in the heart of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The city is famous for its rich culinary scene with traditional French cuisine and therefore a true paradise for gourmets. Its historic town centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to well-preserved Renaissance architecture, secret passageways called Traboules and magnificent squares. Let yourself be enchanted by the beauty of this city before boarding our A-ROSA ship and embarking on an unforgettable cruise through the marvellous landscapes of France.
  3. Day 3

    Tournon-sur-Rhône

Picturesque Tournon lies on the bank of the Rhône – you will be able to admire it from the river. The Rhône region’s mild climate has allowed Le Jardin d’Eden park in Tournon to really flourish. It is a real oasis of relaxation. For nature lovers, it’s also the perfect place for discovering new plants and trees, and is a must-see attraction. The town, which is near Lyon, also has a lot to offer for culture fans and history buffs.
  4. Day 4

    Avignon

Avignon is one of the most popular ports of call on A-ROSA’s Rhône cruises. It is an imposing, historic city in southern France that was home to several of the Catholic popes at one time. Make sure to visit the unique and unmissable Palais des Papes on an excursion to Avignon’s ancient quarter. The city and the surrounding region have a warm climate thanks to the Mediterranean – which means a pleasant stay for you!
  5. Day 5

    Avignon - Arles

Avignon Dep 04:00 am Today we are leaving the beautiful city of Avignon and sailing with you on the Rhône to Arles. You will have the opportunity to admire Arles again from the river and take a couple of pictures from the sun deck. Arles Arr 08:00 am Arles in southern France is the Provençal city par excellence. This sun-drenched city of terracotta-tiled rooftops occupies a broad bend in the River Rhône. Many of its monuments have named UNESCO World Heritage Sites. What’s more, Arles was once a great Roman port. As if all that weren’t reason enough to visit, the city was also home to Vincent van Gogh for a while. Did you know that?
  6. Day 6

    Arles

You will not get enough of this beautiful city in Provence. Set off on an exploration tour on the 2nd day of your stay in Arles, then you are sure to learn even more facts about what makes this city so special and quench your thirst for knowledge.
  7. Day 7

    Viviers

This small medieval city in the Ardèche region is absolutely unmissable. It boasts numerous sights and is dotted with well-preserved monuments from bygone ages. Here in the Rhône region, the typical French attitude to life is also very apparent. Watch France’s history come alive in Viviers, and enjoy the diverse range of attractions that the city has to offer.
  8. Day 8

    Vienne - Lyon

Vienne Arr 08:00 am Dep 08:30 am The multifaceted Vienne was once an important Roman city and, thanks to its location on the Rhône, the gateway to the heart of France. A number of ancient buildings from this period can still be seen today. For example, there is a Roman theatre, which is still used for events such as the summer jazz festival. There is also a very well preserved Roman temple in Vienne, surrounded by an impressive portico. Lyon Arr 01:00 pm What a city! Everyone should see Lyon if they have the opportunity. With its old town – a UNESCO Word Heritage Site – its narrow alleyways, rear courtyards, popular quays and large squares on the Presqu’île, as well as the more than 200 sights that are illuminated after dark, this city takes visitors on an extraordinary journey through different eras and cultures. And right on its doorstep, to the north-west, is Beaujolais. Enjoy fine food and wine and spellbinding views on your Rhône cruise. Idyllic destinations await you here.

About this cruise

France

Highlights of the Rhône River Cruise From Lyon to Tournon/ Tain-l´Hermitage, Avignon, Arles, Viviers and Vienne to Lyon. Travel through the breathtaking landscape of southern France, past charming towns and historical landmarks. The further south you go, the more the dazzling and relaxed Provence with its picturesque light, its joie de vivre and the natural paradise of the Camargue will captivate you. Charming Avignon with its imposing papal palace and picturesque old town and Lyon - known for its fine cuisine and rich history - are just some of the highlights on the cruise. Drifting through this diversity along the Rhône is probably the most relaxed way to enjoy southern France. Lyon : Every lovely Rhône cruise starts in Lyon – A-ROSA cruises do at least. And there is good reason for this: Lyon is a wonderful, modern city with an impressive old town and top-notch cuisine. Lyon partly owes its great culinary reputation to the award-winning French chef Paul Bocuse, who chose it as the headquarters for his brasserie, restaurant and cafe empire. The city is known for its simple yet high-quality fare, which is based on regional products and which gave the city its nickname la ville de gueule (‘the city of the palate’). Provence : Taken literally, savoir-vivre means ‘knowing how to live’. And living well is something that the people of Provence know a great deal about. Surrounded by gnarled olive trees, lilac-hued lavender fields and vineyards that produce the best red wines, it’s a place to relax and enjoy life. In the summer, you can watch one of the local farmers harvest fruit – and maybe lend a hand yourself. Perhaps you’ll even be rewarded with a glass of local wine or a dish of bouillabaisse. Other regional specialities include white nougat from Montélimar, candied fruits from the town of Apt and the famous truffles from the Vaucluse Mountains. Provence is a place where pleasure is a priority Avignon : You’ve probably heard of the famous bridge in the song ‘Sur le pont d’Avignon’. This bridge actually exists, or at least part of it does: wars and floods reduced the bridge’s original 22 arches to 4. In 1660, after yet another flood, the bridge was abandoned. Aside from the bridge, you’re likely to be most delighted by Avignon’s palaces, wines and culture. The Papal Palace is monumentally impressive, particularly in the evening when it is illuminated by a light show.
